update 2016.10.18

On 10th October, at The New Otani Tokyo a signing ceremony was conducted for the memorandum of understanding (MOU) for academic exchange between Bunka Gakuen and Ecole nationale superieure des arts visuele de La Cambre (hereafter referred to as “La Cambre”) as well as Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp (hereafter referred to as “Antwerp”).

La Cambre and Antwerp are both prestigious fashion schools representing the French and Dutch-speaking zone of Belgium respectively. These partnerships were realized on the state visit to Japan by the Their Majesties of the King and the Queen of the Belgians commemorating the 150th Anniversary of Friendship between the two countries. The signing ceremony was honored by the presence of Her Majesty the Queen.

Before the ceremony, lectures were given on the history of exchange between Japanese and Belgian in the field of fashion by Mr. Hirofumi Kurino, Senior Advisor of United Arrows, who is a jury member of graduate collections at Antwerp. Among others who presented in the area of Belgian fashion was Bunka Gakuen University’s Professor Yoko Takagi. These lectures were followed by a discussion on current Belgian fashion by three young designers stationed in Belgium. At the ceremony venue, 10 bodies of garments were exhibited produced by graduates of La Cambre and Antwerp on the theme of “Stop Terrorizing Our World” in response to the March terrorist attacks in Brussels.

The representatives of the two Belgian schools who attended this ceremony visited Bunka on October 13th, participated in a campus tour and exchanged opinions on future exchange with Bunka Gakuen.
