Department of Fashion Sociology

Students enter their chosen program from the third year.

The Department of Fashion Sociology Advances the Fashion of Tomorrow by Analyzing the Fashion Culture Trends of Today.

Fashion sociology looks at fashion comprehensively from the perspectives of sociology, psychology, economics, and history, and there are high expectations for it as a new field of academic inquiry that will lead the next generation. Bunka Womenfs University is the first university in Japan to create such a department, and our students can study fashion as it happens thanks to the Bunka Gakuen Costume Museum which has a collection of 20,000 articles and thanks to the location of the campus just next to Shinjuku, an excellent location for gathering all kinds of information. The Department of Fashion Sociology develops professionals who have skills in gathering, analyzing, and planning fashion information and who can work in a wide variety of settings, such as marketing, distribution, journalism, and other information-related fields.
