Before submission of your application, all applicants must get in touch with the admissions office by email until the following appointed date.
1st session: by July 14 (Fri), 2023
2nd session: by December 8 (Fri), 2023

【News】 Double Degree Program between Bunka Gakuen University and the prestigious Parisian school École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs(ENSAD)

The Double Degree Program is available to graduate students in the Global Fashion Concentration at Bunka Gakuen University who plan to construct a collection as their graduation project, as well as ENSAD’s fourth and fifth year students in Fashion Design and Texture and Textile Design. Up to Two students will be selected from Bunka every May to participate in the program. Bunka students will spend their first half of this two and a half-year program at Bunka in Tokyo and their second half at ENSAD in Paris. They will also participate in the ENSAD graduation fashion show and exhibition. English will be the only language of instruction.

Start of the program

From students who enroll in the 2016 academic year.
Annual number of students from Bunka is up to 2.

Application procedure for this program does not differ from the ordinary procedure of application for the Global Fashion Concentration. Please note that applicants may be asked to submit additional information before being selected due to request from ENSAD.

Master’s Program

Application Eligibility

Those who satisfy ANY of the following requirements;

(1)
Those who have graduated from university (earned a bachelor’s degree) or expect to graduate from university in March 2024 (bachelor’s degree expected).
(2)
Those who have been awarded or are expected to be awarded the Bachelor degree by the National Institution for Academic Degrees and University Evaluation by March, 2024.
(3)
Those who have completed 16-year school education program overseas or expect to complete such program in March 2024.
(4)
Those who have completed or are expected to have completed a 16-year school education curriculum of another country by March, 2024 by undertaking while in Japan via a distance learning course administered by a school located in the relevant country.
(5)
Those who have completed 15-year school education program overseas, and have been recognized as earning approved credits by excellent grade.
(6)
Those in Japan who have completed or are expected to have completed by March, 2024 a course specifically designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology at an educational facility positioned within the school education system of another country having foreign university programs (with the condition that these graduates have completed a 16-year educational curriculum of the relevant foreign country).
(7)
Those who have been awarded or are expected to be awarded the academic degree equivalent to the Bachelor degree by completing a course for 3 years or more overseas.
(8)
Those who have completed a specialized course of study (program of 4 years or more) at a vocational school in Japan and have earned an advanced diploma or expect to receive such diploma in March 2024.
(9)
Those who have been recognized as possessing academic ability at least equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree through an individual admission examination at Bunka Gakuen University Graduate School, and who have reached the age of 22 or will have reached the age of 22 by March 31, 2024.

* Those applying for (9) above must pass the qualification judgment for admission in advance. Those who wish to take the judgment should submit the application documents concerning qualification judgment to the Admissions Office (03-3299-2311) by July 14, 2023 (for Session 1) or by November 30, 2023 (for Session 2).

Midcareer applicants must meet one of the following two conditions;

(1)
Those who have worked more than 2 years after earning a bachelor’s degree or an advanced diploma.
(2)
Those who have earned a bachelor’s degree or an advanced diploma and be over 27 years old at entering this graduate school.

Required Documents

Before submission of your application, please ensure that you get in contact with academic staff responsible for your intended field for consultation before submission. Submit your application only after doing this.

Please be sure to submit “Self-produced Works Proof Certificate” to the academic staff if you are instructed by them to present your self-produced "works" or "portfolios". The proof certificate could be downloaded as below. In case of applying after advance consultation, it will be one of the necessary application documents.

  • If the documents to be submitted are lacking or incomplete, they will not be accepted. The Admissions Office may inspect application documents at any time, so please ensure these are checked before the submission date.
  • Unless otherwise specified, documents submittedshould be original versions (not copies) as a general rule.
  • Submitted documents should be completed either in Japanese. Moreover, any documents in language other than Japanese, need to be attached its translation in Japanese and the translation certificate proved that the translated document is not different from the original by your university or the public institution such as Japanese embassy or consulate general in your country (notary public in China). The admissions office also accepts translation certificate by Japanese language schools and translation companies (limited to those by corporations), however, you should submit it with the name of person responsible for translation. Be sure to submit the original, translated, translated certificate.
  • The selected (intended) major cannot be changed after submission.
  • Application documents will not be returned once submitted, and the application fee will not be refunded once remitted.
  • False statement on an application may result in the rescinding of an offer of acceptance.
  • Applications will not be accepted if the application fee is not transferred.

Application for Status of Resident and Visa

New students residing overseas need to apply for Certificate of Eligibility (Student Visa) at the Regional Immigration Bureau in Japan after completing the entrance formalities. It will take about 2 or 3 months for the Certificate of Eligibility to be approved. Please contact the Student Affairs Division as soon as possible.
If you will be a successful applicant of Graduate School Entrance Examinations 2nd session and need the Certificate of Eligibility, please be aware there is a high likelihood that you are not in time for classes starting in early April for the above reasons.
Bunka Gakuen University recommends that the applicants with status of resident of “Short-term Stay” take Graduate School Entrance Examinations 1st session as much possible.

Doctoral Program

Application Eligibility

Those who satisfy ANY of the following requirements:

(1)
Those who hold a Master's degree or who have been awarded an equivalent specialized professional degree, or who expect to obtain such a degree by March 2024.
(2)
Those who hold a foreign Master's degree or who have been awarded an equivalent specialized professional degree, or who expect to obtain such a degree by March 2024.
(3)
Those who have completed and obtained a Master’s degree or equivalent specialized professional degree while in Japan via a distance learning course offered by a foreign school, or who expect to obtain such a degree by March 2024.
(4)
Those who have completed a course of study at a educational institution in Japan that has been specifically designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as offering a curriculum from a foreign university which is part of the public education system of a foreign country, and who thus hold a Master's degree or equivalent specialized professional degree, or who expect to obtain such a degree by March 2024.
(5)
Those who have completed a course in United Nations University and been awarded the academic degree equivalent to the Master’s degree, or who expect to be awarded by March 2024.
(6)
Those who recognized as possessing academic ability at least equivalent to those possessing a Master’s degree by working at any university or research institute for 2 years or more.
(7)
Those recognized (through an individual examination of qualifications to enter the University’s Graduate School) as possessing academic ability at least equivalent to those possessing a Master's degree, and who have reached 24 years of age, or who will have reached 24 years of age by March 31, 2024.

※ Those applying for (7) above must pass the qualification judgment for admission in advance. Those who wish to take the judgement should submit the application documents concerning qualification judgment to the Admissions Office (03-3299-2311) by November 30, 2023.
