Department of International Fashion and Culture Studies

Students learn fashion from the basic as well English. In order to develop talents who can succeed on the global stage as well as in the fashion industry, the department conducts unique education based on practical curriculum including study abroad program, the fashion show and the graduation event.

Learning Flow

1st year

Learn the basics of fashion and acquire language ability with a focus on English conversation

  • Students acquire skills and knowledge necessary in fashion from the basics, and understand the structures of clothes by making shirts and skirts actually. Language study focused on English conversation is conducted in order to be successful not only in Japan but on the global stage. There is also "Fashion English", the class which combines fashion and English.

2nd year

Students learn advanced techniques and understand in depth about the work of the fashion industry.

  • Based on the fundamentals studied in the 1st year, students deal with new materials and learn advanced techniques including draping. Students acquire the ability to coordinate fashion in total by learning hat making, hairstyling and makeup. They will learn not only techniques but also the current fashion from the graduates and designers who are successful in the fashion industry.

3rd year

Work on the fashion shows while learning the expertise of students own selected course.

  • Students acquire expertise through practices and lectures in each program. They also develop their communication skills by experiencing product making in teams similar to the actual production sites through assignments and fashion show. Also, they develop an international mindset by holding a fashion show in the United States.

4th year

The focus of learning is on the graduation event, which is a culmination of 4years’ study.

  • The graduation event where students plan and produce a stage that combines fashion, music, and performance with stage production and costume design that make use of learning from each of the three courses. Everything is made by students including costumes making, script, PR materials, stage design, music, model, styling, and brochures.

Program Outline (3rd and 4th year)

  • Program in Fashion Styling and Fashion Coordination

    Students study fashion from cultural background. They aim to become a stylist or coordinator with a great deal of knowledge and high-level of sensitivity.

    Students accumulate experiences in event planning and directing events and media-related work in order to become a producer or journalist in fashion fields.

    Students create costumes to maximize the charms of productions and actors. Aim for the world stage with advanced techniques and designing ability.
